Even some of the staunchest anti-religious persons have acknowledged deep down in their hearts, if not outwardly, that God exists. "I believe in something all powerful and all knowing, but I don't know about this Jesus business."
Well, believe it or not, God is the reason you, me and the entire world exists (even the world beyond planet E- oh yes, extra-terrestrials do exist- just not necessarily the way we envision it in movies or novels).
Genesis, (which means the beginning, creation) the very first book in the Bible states that in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth [Genesis 1:1]. There's your proof about our Creator, our origin and the origin of other life and creations by one entity- God.
We also know that God has three distinct personalities- The Creator and Father, The Son and Christ (or Savior) and The Holy Spirit or Holy Ghost (The Comforter) and that They are One. Consider this statement that God makes after man falls to sin:
"And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech."
Genesis 11:6-7
Notice, the reference in the seventh verse, "Let us". God did not say "Let me", but referred to Himself in the plural, indicating His distinct personas as One God.
In Exodus 20, God reveals who He is:
"I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments."
Genesis 20:2-6
These are by no means the only references God makes about Himself. In fact, He reveals much about the mystery of who He is throughout the entire Bible.
So, who is Jesus? From the words of the Torah or Old Testament, there is the foretelling of the One who would die for the remission of man's sins, God, through His Son Jesus, who is God. Sounds confusing. It isn't really if you consider that man is made of the flesh and the spirit. Are we one or two? We are one being with two personas. The flesh is short lived, unlike the spirit. So, back to Jesus. Who is He? The prophet, Isaiah stated:
"Who hath revealed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?
For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.
He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
Surely he hath borned our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
And like sheep we have all gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all."
He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth his mouth not.
He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.
And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.
Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.""
Isaiah 53:1-12
So, we learn way before Jesus was even born of flesh on this planet, that He would serve as our intercessor between man and God for the remission of sins through grace- something that could only come through God. As with many revelations, this is not the only place in the Old Testament or New Testament that the prophecy of Jesus, the Son of God, who is God and the Savior is told.
God reveals in the New Testament:
"And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."
Matthew 3:16-17
Jesus testifies about who He is:
"But Jesus held his peace, And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.
Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven."
Matthew 26:63-64
Notice, He says the Son of man, but don't be confused- it is a reference to His being born in the flesh during His presence on earth as the Son of God and God Himself.
Before His delivery up to the cross for crucifixion, Jesus reaffirms who He is and the provision of the Comforter, His Holy Spirit after His death:
"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.
Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.
Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?
Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
If ye love me, keep my commandments.
And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.
At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?
Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.
These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.
And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe.
Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.
But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence."
John 15:1-31
We also know that Jesus will return upon which His judgment will take place and those of His people, His remnant of children that He has saved, will live with Him eternally. There's a lot of interest in judgment day as revealed in the books of Daniel in the Old Testament and Torah and the New Testament of Revelation. But are you ready for the real thing- the true Apocalypse or Armageddon? Being ready starts with acknowledging God's plan for His children and that Jesus, who is God, died on the cross for the remission of our sins. He is the Son of God, the Holy Spirit and the Father in one and three personas. It's hard for the flesh to get around something like that. The flesh is truly weak, but the spirit is willing.
If this has gotten your curiosity peaked, I beseech you to read your Bible further and search and compare God's Word, the scriptures within the Holy Bible to learn more about God's plan for you. If you aren't sure about the Bible as God's Word consider that God isn't a liar and that He bequeathed the Word for our benefit and guidance. Pray on it first. It can be short and simple. Try:
"Jesus, I don't know if you exist and if you can even hear me. But if you do, I want to learn more about you. Show me the way. In your name, Jesus. Amen."
As John stated:
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The same was in the beginning with God.
All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth."
John 1:1-14
Not sure? Is your conscience sort of battling inside? That's the Holy Spirit, by the way. Why not try that prayer and read a chapter or two today?
God Bless,
