Keepin' It Real, Making It Plain

I've met several interesting people in my life and out of our conversations, I've heard the same ideas about their notions concerning who and what God is. Some of the more common statements are:

"I have my own god."

"Jesus didn't exist."

"God is whoever I want him be."

"Jesus was a [insert your preferred race or ethnic group] man."

"God was a she, not a he."

"The Jews were great storytellers. The Torah and Bible are great big stories."

"Reasonable people believe in the rationality of science."

"Hell doesn't exist."

"The devil doesn't exist."

"If you are good, you are going to heaven."

"Hell is not loving others."

"God doesn't exist. If he did, why would bad things happen to good people?"

"What kind of god would let [insert your choice of calamity(ies)] happen?"

"If God exists, why can't I see him?"

And the list goes on and on . . .

But who is God? What would he say to all of these people? Believe it or not, the answers truly are available for us to know. It's in a handy guide- a manual if you will- that tells those who want to know the secret to successfully navigating this life to something bigger and better than any human could ever imagine. It's called the Bible. To the unknowing, unbelieving and doubtful, it's just a book written by men that have some egotistical fixation with being righteous and "holier than thou". To those with an open heart, mind and soul, it's a living document, God's word, His love letter to His creation, His children- and they wouldn't venture into this life of the unknown without it.

If you are turned off by this and choose to read elsewhere (Ugh! Here's another self-righteous Christian), I bid you peace and keep you in my prayers. But, if you are curious about God, want to know who Jesus, the Christ is (also known as the Savior or the Messiah), wonder about the Holy Spirit (also known as The Comforter) and want to know why it seems like there are three Gods when Christians acknowledge there is only One God, grab your Bible (if you don't own one, go get one- King James is recommended) and bookmark the following:
