It's A Wrap! Week of 06.3

Thursday, 6.02.05: The first YouthLead Advisory Board (YAD) meeting was held in New York City. Advisory board members met to discuss YouthLead's focus for the summer including the YouthLead In Focus Advisory team (YL's youth leadership team), pilot launch and organizational development. Member bios will soon be available on the YouthLead site and listserve. Meetings are held the first Thursday of each month at 7pm at the HarlemLIVE office.

Saturday, 5.21.05 & 5.28.05: Partner organization, HarlemLIVE kicked off an event series, HarlemLIVE Poetry Slam. Plenty of folks showed their support of some of the city's most talented young poets. The slam continues 6.11.05. More information is available at www.harlemlive.org.

Do you know young people that want to build leadership and advocacy skills? Are you one? YouthLead is currently recruiting for its YouthLead In Focus Advisory Team (YIF). This is a great way to develop leadership, communication and advocacy skills and have ownership in programming designed for you. Rather than just participate, you will have the opportunity to build a program for you, by you.

Contact YouthLead at [email protected] for information. Put "Join YIF" in the subject line.

It's A Wrap! Week of 05.13

It has been a productive week for YouthLead including attendance at two excellent initiatives created to foster stronger collaboration and networking within the NPO arena.

Wednesday, 05.11: The third monthly LocalJam meeting, an initiative created by GYAN (Global Youth Action Network) was held at the Chat The Planet office in Manhattan. The meeting, which lasted over three hours incorporated group conversations, report backs and organizational "plug time" where members had the opportunity to share the latest happenings at their ventures.

The next meeting is scheduled for mid-June. A date should be available soon. Learn more about GYAN and the LocalJam at www.youthlink.org

Thursday, 05.12: The Queens Borough Mentoring Network had another successful turnout for its monthly meetings. The meetings are an initiative of BIG BROTHERS/BIG SISTERS of New York City to serve the purpose of greater collaboration and resource sharing amongst mentoring groups throughout New York City. There is a meeting for each borough. Learn more by emailing [email protected]

You can learn about the organizations in attendance and their activities by going to the sociokast and $martEconomy blogs. Submit items for consideration to [email protected] and [email protected], respectively.

YouthLead Founder and Chief Executive, Dawn C. Hayes met with CCMP Operations Manager, Elizabeth Stevens and team members of CCMP (Coalition of Concerned Medical Professionals) to discuss their work as an all volunteer organization dedicated to a comprehensive approach to quality medical care for all. For over 30 years, the organization has run on a network of committed, inspiring contributors to serve the needs of the New York Community. Learn more about CCMP by calling 718.469.5817. Thanks to Lucretia John, CCMP volunteer and YouthLead Advisory Board member for turning YouthLead on to such a wonderful venture.
